In the loupe was commissioned by Sydney Festival and Moogahlin Performing Arts to record a live performance titled The Weekend at Carriageworks in Redfern. The performance was written and developed at Yellamundi Festival 2017 by First Nations Performers. Yellamundi is a Darug word for ‘Storyteller’.
The performance centres around a woman who returns to Sydney from working interstate as a dancer. Themes of a family dealing with addiction drive the story forward.
Live performances are challenging to capture, from the lighting to ensuring that the intensity of the performance translates to the small screen. In the loupe valued the chance to capture this event and work closely with an indigenous performing arts group to document the performance.
The purpose of documenting this event was to create a showreel to be used across social media, and to apply for other festivals around the world.
